Research Part A: Investigating Lightweight Materials

Flinders Lane Walk (During Contemporary Design Excursion)

During my class excursion down Flinders Lane, i noticed a few cafe's with seating at the front. i took notice of their simplistic designs as well as there shapes and structure.

i only decided to take a few photos when i passed the third or fourth cafe, i also took some photos of the surfaces they were on

In-Class Spaghetti Challenge

We had to construct a structure out of raw spaghetti pasta and masking tape that would fit in a 100mm x 100mm x100mm cube. The Aim of the challenge was to have the structure to be very sturdy and that it could withstand weight as well as an applied pressure from the top.

First Structure Created:
we decided to go with a larger triangular base and a smaller triangular top but there was no strength in the center due to no cross bracing and supports.

Second Structure Created:

we decided to use triangles to create the structure more sturdy then the first attempt. also cross bracing was used in diagonal angles to allow for more strength.
